In a significant move that marks a new era for one of India’s most storied business conglomerates, the Godrej family disclosed a major realignment of ownership late Tuesday night, partitioning the century-old group into two distinct entities. This pivotal restructuring will take effect following the acquisition of all requisite permissions from regulatory bodies.
At the helm of the newly formed Godrej Enterprises Group (GEG) is Jamshyd Godrej, who will carry forward his role as Chairperson and Managing Director. Working alongside him is his niece Nyrika Holkar, entrusted with the responsibilities of Executive Director. Their immediate families will also play key roles in GEG’s governance. Godrej & Boyce (G&B) and its affiliates constitute this branch of the conglomerate, known for its diverse involvements in high-value sectors including Aerospace, Aviation, Defence, and Energy, as well as Engines and Motors, Security, and Building Materials. Expanding its reach, GEG excels in providing solutions in Green Building Consulting, EPC Services, Intralogistics, Healthcare Equipment, Durables, Furniture, and Interior Design, among others. The portfolio also encompasses Architectural Fittings, IT, Software, and Infrastructure Solutions.
Nyrika Holkar, stepping into her new position, brings fresh perspectives to an empire that spans over a dozen industries, further fortifying GEG’s aspirations to innovate and expand globally. Indeed, GEG is poised to harness its pioneering spirit in engineering and design-led innovation, capitalizing on its broad array of strategic, consumer, and emerging businesses.
Coinciding with GEG’s emergence is the formation of the Godrej Industries Group (GIG), which will operate under the stewardship of Chairperson Nadir Godrej. GIG is rooted in a shared family vision that aligns with Adi Godrej, Nadir Godrej, and their immediate family members. Pirojsha Godrej, son of Adi Godrej, is set to take on the role of Executive Vice Chairperson of GIG and is slated to succeed Nadir Godrej as Chairperson come August 2026. This group encapsulates the publicly traded entities, which include Godrej Industries, Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej Properties, Godrej Agrovet, and Astec Lifesciences – all brands synonymous with trust and excellence.
Expressing his outlook on the future, Jamshyd Godrej reflected on the company’s beginnings in 1897, a time that signified a strong commitment to nation-building. The realignment, he believes, will streamline GEG’s growth trajectory, allowing for a more focused pursuit of opportunities that align with its high-tech and design-innovation expertise.
Nadir Godrej mirrored these sentiments in his statement, reminiscing the founding vision of the Godrej name, which was to foster economic independence for India. He emphasized that the values of trust, respect, and community upliftment have been, and will continue to be, the linchpins of their family ethos. With renewed focus and agility, GIG aims to propel the legacy forward, upholding the innovative spirit that has sustained the group for the past 125 years.
Throughout this transition, both groups, GEG and GIG, will retain the right to the illustrious Godrej brand, an emblem of their storied past and their commitment to quality and integrity. The reorganization, therefore, is not merely a shift in corporate structure but also a testament to the Godrej family’s enduring principles and their vision for the future. It is a narrative of evolution, showcasing a historic pivot that respects the legacy while daring to dream about the promise of what lies ahead.
