Rajneish Duggall, once a popular name in the modeling world, ventured into the acting domain with the 2008 supernatural horror flick, “1920”. Directed by Vikram Bhatt and featuring Adah Sharma, the film turned out to be a box-office hit, etching Rajneish’s name in the film industry. But the road to his debut was far from smooth; it was nearly derailed by a storied incident involving Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra.
In a candid conversation with well-known YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, Rajneish revealed that he was originally set to debut in the 2005 romantic mystery thriller “Yakeen”. He expressed, “I was the first choice for Yakeen. I was signed for the film and had already started working on it. When I met director Girish Dhamija, he asked, ‘When can you move to Mumbai?’ I was already planning my move. Girish ji, an alum of the National School of Drama and a dialect coach, began training me. They offered me a three-film deal where I had a double role alongside Priyanka as the lead. They provided me with accommodation in a penthouse in Juhu, gave me a car and a driver, and even arranged food delivery to my flat. I was all in, leaving brand endorsements from companies like Siyaram and Vimal to focus solely on the film.”
However, just as things seemed promising, the situation took a stark turn. Rajneish continued, “Then one night, producer Sujit Kumar Singh called me to his office and told me that Priyanka, who had risen to stardom since my signing, was refusing to work with a newcomer. My initial thought was that they could simply replace the actress, as the investment appeared to be more on me. I didn’t realize the intricacies of the movie business back then. They mentioned it was Priyanka’s decision, although I suspect it could have been influenced by her managers or those around her. I don’t hold any grudge against her, but she knew I was part of the project and could have vouched for me.”
Ultimately, “Yakeen” was completed with actors Arjun Rampal and Priyanka Chopra taking the lead roles, leaving Rajneish to make his eventual debut with “1920”. Post “1920”, Rajneish embarked on a film journey that included titles like “Be Careful”, “This Weekend”, “Spark”, “Laal Rang”, “Wajah Tum Ho”, “Beiimaan Love”, and “Teri Bhabhi Hai Pagle”.
. Unfortunately, none managed to replicate the initial success of his debut, and Rajneish faced the weight of 15 flops over the ensuing decade.
Reflecting on this challenging phase, Rajneish stated, “Every failure taught me something valuable. The industry is harsh, but resilience is key. It’s easy to be disheartened, but one must keep moving forward.”
Despite the setbacks, Rajneish is not one to give up easily. He has shifted his focus to the rapidly expanding digital space, believing it offers new opportunities for revitalization. He made his presence felt in the Nigerian-Indian Netflix series “Postcards”, which began streaming on May 3rd. He shared his thoughts, “The digital platform is brimming with potential and reaching a global audience is now more feasible. I felt rejuvenated doing ‘Postcards’. It’s a fresh start, and I am optimistic about this new medium.”
Rajneish’s journey, marked by highs and lows, serves as a testament to the unpredictable nature of the entertainment industry. He remains hopeful and continues to push boundaries, understanding that success in showbiz often requires perseverance and adaptation to changing trends.
In the end, Rajneish Duggall’s story is one of dreams, determination, and the undying desire to succeed despite the odds. As he dives into the web series world, his fans and the industry are keenly watching, hopeful that this new venture will finally bring him the lasting success he deserves.
