Randeep Hooda Honours Veer Savarkar on His 141st Birth Anniversary

Randeep Hooda is riding high on the success of his latest film, ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’. The film, a biographical drama chronicling the life of the revolutionary freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, was digitally released to coincide with the 141st birth anniversary of the influential leader. This release has not just captivated audiences but also brought Randeep Hooda accolades for his dedicated portrayal of the contentious yet monumental figure.

Just recently, during a ceremony held at Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak in Dadar, Randeep Hooda received the prestigious ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar Puruskar’. The ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Governor of Bihar, Rajendra Arlekar, and Ranjeet Savarkar, a close family member of the freedom fighter. This award recognized Randeep’s earnest efforts to bring the essence of Savarkar’s life to the screen authentically and passionately.

In the lead-up to this special occasion, ahead of Veer Savarkar’s 141st birth anniversary and the film’s world digital premiere, Randeep Hooda embarked on a meaningful visit to Port Blair. This city is a significant landmark in Veer Savarkar’s life journey. During his stay, Randeep made a pilgrimage to the iconic Cellular Jail, the notorious British colonial-era prison where Savarkar was sentenced to an aggregate of fifty years of life imprisonment. Within this grim setting, Randeep paid tribute to Savarkar’s enduring legacy by participating in a cake-cutting ceremony with the jail’s officials and staff.

Reflecting on this visit, Randeep Hooda expressed profound humility, stating, “Standing here in the historic and dreaded Cellular Jail, where Veer Savarkar endured immense suffering yet never wavered in his commitment to India’s freedom, is deeply humbling. His story is a testament to the power of resilience and patriotism.” He emphasized how this location, associated with immense struggle and ultimate perseverance, served as the backdrop for many poignant scenes in the film.

Randeep Hooda also visited Ross Island, where attempts were made on Savarkar’s life, and Flag Point, where the Indian flag was first hoisted on Indian soil by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on December 30, 1943. These visits were not just public deference but also deeply personal for Randeep, connecting him to the spirit and struggles of Veer Savarkar on a profound level.

The celebration of Savarkar did not end there. A special screening of ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ was held in Port Blair, and it was graced by Randeep Hooda and his wife.

. This event was meticulously organized by the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, adding to the significance of the film’s premiere.

Randeep Hooda shared his heartfelt reflections, saying, “Today happens to be Savarkar’s 141st birth anniversary and also the world digital premiere of the movie Swatantrya Veer Savarkar on ZEE5. Through this movie, we aim to bring his extraordinary journey to the forefront and inspire future generations. I am grateful to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands for inviting me here to commemorate the birth anniversary of our Hero in the place he suffered for the freedom of our nation. I feel humbled that my efforts in showcasing Kaala Pani on tabloid and for putting in my blood, sweat and tears in making Swatantrya Veer Savarkar in the most honest way have paid off as the movie is gaining recognition and encouragement from fans across.”

Veer Savarkar’s life story is one of immense determination and unwavering commitment to India’s independence from British rule. As a fierce advocate for complete independence, Savarkar spent over a decade in the grim confines of the Cellular Jail, which was colloquially known as Kaala Pani. It was within these walls that Savarkar’s resolve was strengthened, and his influential writings continued to inspire his fellow prisoners and later, the broader Indian independence movement. His seminal work on Hindutva still serves as a cornerstone in the larger discourse of Indian political thought.

‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,’ the film directed by Randeep, does more than just chronicle the life of a revolutionary; it delves into Savarkar’s ideological legacy, which includes pioneering the concepts of Hindutva and Akhand Bharat. Though a controversial figure, Savarkar’s influence on great leaders such as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, and Khudi Ram Bose is undeniable, making his life a significant chapter in India’s struggle for freedom. The film strives to narrate this complex story from Savarkar’s own perspective, presenting his ideals and beliefs that, while initially contentious, have woven themselves into the fabric of modern India.

Randeep Hooda received substantial recognition for this portrayal, bringing an often-overlooked hero back into the public eye with authenticity and respect. The movie’s success and the accolades that followed underscore the importance of remembering and reflecting on the sacrifices made by leaders like Veer Savarkar. Randeep’s dedication to depicting this story has not only drawn admiration but has also ignited a renewed interest in one of India’s most formidable yet often neglected freedom fighters.
