Triptii Dimri’s Journey from a Novice to a Noteworthy Actor

As her debut film Laila Majnu re-releases in Kashmir, Triptii Dimri recounts her initial struggles and how she evolved as an artiste over the years.

In 2018, Triptii Dimri stepped into the Bollywood spotlight with her debut film, Laila Majnu, directed by Sajid Ali. At the time, the film garnered modest attention, but what was a slow start turned into a gradually building admiration for the romantic drama. Over the years, Laila Majnu has developed a cult following, which has now culminated in its nationwide re-release and, notably, its first-ever release in Kashmir. “Kashmir is the heart of the film,” Dimri reminisces. “We spent three to four months shooting there,” she recalls fondly. “The people there are full of love. Every time you visit someone’s home, they make sure you leave with a full stomach. It’s a profound joy for us that the film is releasing there.”

The chemistry between Dimri and her co-star, Avinash Tiwary, is often cited as one of the film’s greatest attributes. Reflecting on her experience working with Tiwary, Dimri expresses immense gratitude. “Avinash was the finest co-star a newcomer could’ve asked for. I hope I get to work with him more. He is supportive, kind, and ensures that not only his performance but everyone’s performance is at its best,” she shares. It was Tiwary who recommended that Dimri attend an acting workshop, a gesture she describes as transformative. “That workshop completely changed my perspective on acting,” she adds.

Since her debut, Dimri has come a long way, growing as an artiste and delivering powerful performances in subsequent films. Her notable roles in Bulbbul (2020) and Qala (2022) showcased her evolving talent, while the more recent Animal (2023) continued to highlight her dynamic range as an actor. Currently, with Bad Newz running in theaters, Dimri takes a moment to reflect on her journey, crediting Laila Majnu for laying the foundation for her acting career. “Back then, I didn’t know much about acting. I was following my gut and the director’s instructions,” she explains. Dimri candidly recalls her initial struggle: “On the first day of shooting, I couldn’t even perform one scene properly. But by the last day, I was confident in what I was doing. I’ve significantly grown as an actor because of that film.”

Triptii Dimri’s entry into the film industry was not without its challenges. The world of Bollywood can be daunting for any newcomer, and Dimri was no exception.

. She talks about the initial jitters and the immense pressure she felt during her first days on the set. “The first day was terrifying,” she admits. “I was new to the camera, the crew, and everything felt overwhelming. But with each passing day, I found my footing. The experience was a rollercoaster, filled with highs and lows, but it taught me resilience and adaptability.”

Her collaboration with Director Sajid Ali also played a crucial role in her development. “Sajid sir was incredibly patient with me,” she recalls. “He understood my nervousness and worked with me closely to bring out the best in my performance. His insights were invaluable, and he encouraged me to trust in my instincts as an actor.”

The turning point for Dimri, however, was undoubtedly the acting workshop suggested by Tiwary. “That was a game-changer,” she recounts. “The workshop opened my eyes to the nuances of acting that I had never considered before. It wasn’t just about memorizing lines or hitting marks; it was about truly embodying the character, understanding their motivations and emotions. It was a holistic approach to acting that broadened my horizon.”

Her roles in Bulbbul and Qala further solidified her presence in the industry. Each film presented its own set of challenges and learning opportunities. “With Bulbbul, I got to explore a complex character with layers of emotions and a rich backstory,” Dimri explains. “Qala, on the other hand, required a different kind of preparation. Both roles demanded a deep dive into the psyche of the characters and pushed me out of my comfort zone.”

Looking ahead, Dimri remains enthusiastic about the future. “Every film is a new journey, a new story to tell,” she says. “I’m eager to explore diverse roles and continue to grow as an actor. The film industry is constantly evolving, and I want to evolve with it.”

As Triptii Dimri’s journey continues, her debut in Laila Majnu stands as a testament to her resilience and dedication to her craft. From a novice facing the camera for the first time to a notable actor with significant performances under her belt, Dimri’s evolution is a story of passion, perseverance, and constant learning. The re-release of Laila Majnu in Kashmir marks not just a return to where it all began for Dimri, but a celebration of how far she has come.
