Vijay Antony Discusses Unique Promotion Techniques and Upcoming Film ‘Hitler’

Vijay Antony, a distinguished name in the Indian cinema industry, is widely recognized as a trendsetter. His illustrious career is marked by significant milestones, from his chart-busting compositions like ‘Naakka Mukka’ to his innovative promotional strategies. As he gears up for the release of his latest film, ‘Hitler,’ he’s made headlines once again by reimagining how film promotions are done.

Unlike the monotonous, template-driven interviews often staged in identical settings, Vijay Antony decided to break the mold. Enlisting the help of an art director and a dedicated team, he transformed the setup for each interview. Each session occurred in a vividly redesigned room, complete with unique chairs, background posters, and lighting, ensuring that every promotional video stood out in its own right.

“As we grow and gain knowledge in cinema, I’m also learning how important publicity is. In my previous film interviews, I noticed that all of them were conducted in the same room, and those videos looked weak and lacked depth. I wanted the quality people see in films to be consistent wherever I appear,” Vijay explained.

This creative approach not only adds flair to his promotional activities but also reflects his commitment to bringing high production values to every aspect of his work. As a composer, actor, producer, and often undertaking multiple roles within a project, Vijay Antony’s dedication is evident in the various hats he wears.

Continuing his prolific output, Vijay has maintained a tradition seen decades ago: releasing multiple films in a single year. It’s a consequence of certain uncontrollable circumstances, yet Vijay remains unfazed by the frequency of his releases. “The films I produced were released on time, but some of my other films were delayed. So when they are finally released, the span between the films gets reduced. Though that was not the plan, I don’t see anything wrong with it.”

Vijay’s approach is pragmatic regarding the abundance of film releases within a short duration. He believes that the quality of the content is the crucial determinant of a film’s success, irrespective of its release date. Citing examples like ‘Viswasam’ and ‘Petta,’ both released on the same day and achieving blockbuster status, he emphasized, “It’s content that matters the most.

. I make sure at least a gap of four months is there between two of my releases; that’s when a film can be promoted well.”

When asked about the risk of overexposure, Vijay confidently articulated how it ultimately boils down to the strength of the content. “Irrespective of how often your titles release, what the movie talks about and whether it’s entertaining for the audience is all that matters,” he said. He further delved into how the storyline and screenplay are all he considers during narration, bringing into context his upcoming film, ‘Hitler,’ and its unique selling proposition (USP).

In ‘Hitler’, a film he describes as politically themed, the protagonist is perceived as a Hitler by the wrongdoers of society. This complex narrative introduces audiences to a character painted in a morally ambiguous light, challenging their perceptions.

Referring to Dana SA, the director of ‘Hitler,’ Vijay credited Mani Ratnam with recognizing Dana’s potential. “If Mani Ratnam sir had given a chance to a person to assist him, it means there’s a lot of value in him. I enjoyed his previous film ‘Vaanam Kottattum’ and if he’s coming to me with an action script, I believed I could accept it with confidence.”

Vijay Antony is also known for his deep philosophical insights during interviews. Drawing parallels between life’s unpredictable course and cotton balls drifting with the wind, he eloquently expresses resilience. “When we try to go against it and fail, we go into depression and anxiety. Every situation will change us, but we have to keep going through them. When we keep our focus on one particular aspect, we might lose the better ones that come our way. So keeping expectations low and working towards what we want feels like the way to go.”

As a multifaceted artist, Vijay Antony has carved a niche for himself not only with his creative and strategic approach to filmmaking but also with his reflective wisdom. His ability to balance multiple roles while maintaining a strong personal philosophy continues to inspire many within the industry. ‘Hitler’ is set for release on September 27, 2024, and audiences eagerly await what promises to be a thought-provoking film.
