In an interview with Radio Nasha, she recollected the details of the accident, which resulted in 67 pieces of glass being lodged in her face. The accident occurred in Bengaluru while Mahima was on her way to an early morning shoot for the film ‘Dil Kya Kare’, which featured Ajay Devgn. Recalling those traumatic moments, Mahima shared, “When the accident happened, I did not realize the extent of the damage. It was only when I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror that I saw the numerous cuts on my face. Prior to that, I was telling Prakash ji, the film’s director, that if nothing serious had happened, we could proceed with the shoot. However, after the doctors had completed their scans, Prakash ji suggested we postpone and discuss new dates. It was at this moment that I comprehended the severity of my injuries.”
Mahima was desperate to keep the accident a secret in an effort to preserve her career. She requested Ajay Devgn and director Prakash Jha not to disclose the incident to anyone. “When Ajay and Prakash ji came back, my immediate request was, ‘Please don’t tell anyone about this accident. Let me see what I can do to salvage my career.’ Remarkably, no one from the production team revealed what had happened. I only shared my story 20 years later, and that is when people found out. It was commendable that everyone involved kept it confidential. I would go on set, and everyone could see my condition,” she expressed.

Ajay Devgn played a crucial role in supporting Mahima during her challenging times. Despite her injuries, Ajay often reassured her that with surgeries, she would eventually recover. “Ajay used to say that after surgeries, everything would be fine, but I had my doubts. I was contemplating other career options. Even today, one of my eyes is smaller than the other, which was quite distressing back then. I never faced the camera head-on; I would always angle my face,” Mahima added.
