IFFI to Celebrate the Timeless Contributions of Raj Kapoor Mohammed Rafi and More Cinematic Giants

The 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to be a monumental celebration, as it pays tribute to the indelible marks left by four towering figures of Indian cinema. This year, IFFI will dedicate itself to honouring the extraordinary legacies of cinematic legends Raj Kapoor, Tapan Sinha, Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR), and the legendary singer Mohammed Rafi. Through a series of tributes, film screenings, and interactive sessions, the festival will offer attendees an opportunity to closely explore and appreciate the profound contributions these icons have made to Indian and global cinema.

One of the key highlights of this year’s festival is the presentation of digitally restored versions of their timeless classics, restored by the NFDC-NFAI. This initiative not only revives these masterpieces for modern audiences but also preserves their magic for future generations. Among these cherished classics, Raj Kapoor’s iconic film “Awaara” will be featured in its restored glory. The film, known for its soulful blend of humour and empathy, showcases Kapoor’s dedication to portraying the journey of the common man.

Tapan Sinha’s deeply impactful film “Harmonium” will also make its presence felt at the festival. Through meticulous storytelling and compelling themes, “Harmonium” stands as a testament to Sinha’s artistic prowess and narrative depth. This restored version will invite the audience to rediscover and reflect upon Sinha’s unique cinematic vision.

Furthermore, the festival will screen “Devadasu,” a cornerstone of Akkineni Nageswara Rao’s illustrious career that cemented his legacy in Indian cinema. The restoration of this legendary film promises to captivate audiences with its classic storytelling once more. Finally, the classic “Hum Dono,” with its music immortalized by Mohammed Rafi, will be experienced in an enhanced audio-visual form. This version is a heartfelt celebration of Rafi’s monumental contribution to the music and film industry, echoing his melodious voice for audiences both old and new.

Beyond the screenings, IFFI aims to celebrate these cinematic greats throughout the festival with a variety of events that shine a light on their legacies. The festival will open with an awe-inspiring performance that celebrates the lives and achievements of these legends, supported by a dynamic audiovisual presentation that vividly recounts their cinematic journeys.
