Alea names Jordi Sendra CEO as founder Tomic moves aside

In what marks a new chapter for global gaming firm Alea, founder Alex Tomic has made the decision to step down from his role as CEO, passing the torch to Jordi Sendra, who steps up from his Chief Operating Officer (COO) position. Tomic’s leadership has seen the company flourish into a major player on the international scene, with diversified operations spanning various continents, including Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

Under Tomic’s guidance, Alea has emerged as a truly global enterprise, mirroring the visionary’s personal growth trajectory. Tomic spoke of his time as CEO with a tinge of nostalgia and a look towards the future. “It is now time for me to take a new role in the industry,” he said, indicating a shift towards an ambassadorial position. The outgoing CEO plans to leverage his wealth of experience to further positive changes within the gaming sector, which is experiencing a period of substantial transformation.

In addition to his new industry-wide role, Tomic will continue to contribute to Alea through strategic project involvement. This ensures that his expertise and leadership will remain a guiding force for the supplier, albeit in a different capacity.

Jordi Sendra, a figure familiar with the inner workings of Alea since his assumption of the COO role in 2021, will now take the helm as CEO. Sendra, whose background features stints in industrial manufacturing and business consultancy, regards this promotion as a “natural progression” in the context of Alea’s evolving leadership dynamics. Sendra expresses enthusiasm for the task ahead, acknowledging the solid foundation laid by Tomic and the team’s concerted efforts.

“I’m looking forward to building on the work Alex and our team have done,” Sendra commented, highlighting his preparedness to further the company’s ambitions.

In a strategic addition to the leadership team, Ramon Glieneke joins Alea, filling the void left by Sendra in the COO position. Coming from Apartum, a prominent player in the travel industry’s aggregation business, Glieneke is recognized for his “extensive experience and profound understanding of API aggregation.” This knowledge base is seen as a significant asset to Alea as they continue to navigate and innovate in the gaming landscape.

Tomic’s hiring practices have intentionally broken industry norms, advocating for the infusion of new perspectives by recruiting talent from beyond the gaming industry’s traditional talent pools. This progressive approach to staff wellbeing has also aimed to render the gaming sector more appealing to professionals from various backgrounds. Tomic is vocal about his ambition to create an inclusive environment which prioritizes team members’ welfare, a principle he views as crucial to the company’s success.

“With Ramon Glieneke joining as our new COO, Alea continues this proud heritage of bringing outside talent into the igaming industry,” Tomic explained, underlining the importance of diverse hiring practices.

Stakeholders and observers alike can gain insights from Alea’s new CEO, Jordi Sendra, as he expounds on the company’s global ambitions and operational philosophy in a video series released last year. These discussions offer a glimpse into the strategic direction and aspirations of Alea under its fresh leadership.

As one era closes and another begins, Alea stands at the precipice of continued expansion and innovation. With Sendra at the helm and Tomic’s continuous strategic guidance, Alea is poised to navigate the evolving currents of the gaming industry and solidify its status as a global powerhouse.
