Marking the end of an eventful tenure, the igaming sphere saw the departure of a notable industry figure. Loukas Lindahl, the former global marketing head of LeoVegas, has parted ways with the company after an impactful nearly six-year journey. Having delved into various key roles since his inception into the business in April 2018, Lindahl’s upward trajectory within LeoVegas has been a testament to his adaptability and expertise.
Embarking on his LeoVegas adventure, Lindahl initially took charge as the managing director for Italy, a pivotal market in the operator’s European portfolio. His talent for steering market-centric strategies swiftly propelled him to the forefront as the head of MGA markets and subsequently as the general manager overseeing both European and North American operations. In August 2021, his responsibilities culminated in his ascension to the role of global chief marketing officer, a position that placed him at the helm of the operator’s worldwide marketing initiatives.
Before his association with LeoVegas, Lindahl honed his skills in various capacities across the digital marketing domain. His resume boasts leadership roles such as head of international development at Gruppo DigiTouch, CEO of Optimized Group, and country manager for Italy at Just Search Italy. He further sharpened his proficiency as the key account manager at NetBooster Sweden.
When announcing his departure through a heartfelt LinkedIn post, Lindahl did not miss the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the collective efforts of his colleagues at LeoVegas. His message read, “Thank you for the most amazing five years in my career; it has been a great ride. I will miss you all. LeoVegas is a one-of-a-kind company and having worked there has been a privilege.” He continued, extending his gratitude towards Gustaf Hagman, LeoVegas CEO, commending his leadership and expressing his personal sense of loss upon leaving.
Lindahl’s exit comes at a particularly dynamic juncture for LeoVegas, which has been witnessing a succession of developments in recent months. This includes pivotal partnerships, acquisitions, and launches that signal LeoVegas’s firm commitment to maintaining its edge in a highly competitive market.
One of the noteworthy strides made by the company includes a collaboration with the renowned MGM Resorts International. This strategic alliance saw the conception of the BetMGM brand within the UK market, leveraging the groundbreaking technology and platform developed by LeoVegas. This development followed the significant move in September 2022, which saw MGM Resorts International acquire LeoVegas in a massive $604 million deal.
Adding to the buzz, LeoVegas completed a significant transaction in acquiring a majority stake in the inventive games developer Push Gaming in September. This acquisition is poised to reinforce the operator’s gaming offer with a slew of fresh and engaging content.
The latter part of the year also saw LeoVegas execute its re-entry into the Dutch market. The company marked its comeback with the launch of a new Netherlands-targeted website, LeoVegas.nl, a hub for an array of online casino games, live casino options, and sports betting services. This strategic move materialized after securing a vital new license in July courtesy of its LeoVegas Gaming division, reaffirming the company’s place in the Dutch market following its previous operations and subsequent halt in activities just prior to the country’s regulated market opening on October 1, 2021.
Despite Lindahl leaving behind a role that many would deem irreplaceable, his legacy forms a blueprint for leadership within the igaming industry. With his accomplishments at LeoVegas and his imminent departure, the company is set to continue on a trajectory that is both groundbreaking and ambitious, navigating the competitive and ever-evolving landscape of online gaming.
