In a significant development garnering international attention, Chennai-based water technology company VA Tech Wabag Ltd. (Wabag) has announced a key business achievement in the field of water treatment. The project is a result of a repeat order from the Office National De L’assainissement (ONAS), valued at Euro 34 million, reaffirming the company’s strong presence in the region and underscoring its expertise in water technology.

Set to rise at Sousse Hamdoun II, the forthcoming 36 MLD (million liters per day) Wastewater Treatment Plant is positioned to significantly improve the management of water resources in the area. The Plant will be instrumental in treating wastewater to meet the needs of the growing population and the environmental standards required for sustainable development.

The financing structure of this strategic project demonstrates a robust collaboration of international financial institutions, including the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Investment Bank (BEI), and the European Union (EU). These partnerships highlight the global confidence in Wabag’s capabilities and the importance of investing in sustainable water solutions.

From an operational perspective, Wabag’s role will encompass a comprehensive suite of services, including engineering and procurement as well as operation and maintenance (O&M). This new project is scheduled for completion over a period of two years, with a subsequent 12-month period allocated for O&M services. Such timelines articulate the company’s commitment to delivering efficient and high-quality water infrastructure, a testament to their previous successes and customer satisfaction resulting in the repeat order from ONAS.

Wabag’s CEO for Tunisia, Habib Derouich, expressed pride and confidence in the company’s achievement and capabilities. He highlighted that winning this repeat order against stiff global competition has substantially fortified Wabag’s market leadership in Tunisia as well as across the North African region. The statement conveys Wabag’s dedication to expanding its footprint and maintaining a dominant market position through the successful execution of complex and impactful projects.

A deeper look into Wabag’s history in the region reveals a series of successful projects and a growing trust among regional stakeholders. The firm has consistently brought state-of-the-art water treatment technologies and management expertise to several countries, addressing the critical need for water conservation and treatment. Wabag’s role transcends mere business, as it actively contributes to improving the quality of life and supporting sustainable development in the countries it operates.

With the environmental impact of water treatment at the forefront of global concerns, Wabag’s new project in Sousse Hamdoun II not only signifies a business win but also aligns with the broader objective of promoting eco-friendly practices. It will aid in the preservation of Tunisia’s natural water bodies, contribute to the public health by providing clean water, and maintain ecological balance.
