Amongst the upcoming original series is “The Big Cigar,” which narrates the astonishing true tale of how Black Panther leader Huey Newton eluded the FBI and fled to Cuba with the help of Bert Schneider, a renowned producer. This elaborate escape plan, disguised as a movie production, goes awry in every conceivable way, yet it is a real story. The show features André Holland in the leading role and stars an exceptional cast including Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, PJ Byrne, and many others. The series, penned by Jim Hecht, is brought to life under the direction of the illustrious Don Cheadle and showrunner Janine Sherman Barrois. The much-anticipated series is set to premiere globally on May 17, with subsequent episodes airing each Friday until June 14.

Apple’s critically acclaimed comedy series “Trying” makes its return with actors Esther Smith and Rafe Spall taking the lead as a couple adept in the challenges of adoption. When their teenage daughter starts seeking her birth mother, the couple faces the ultimate parenting test. Created and executive produced by Andy Wolton, the series is a heartfelt exploration of family dynamics. The fourth season will air starting May 22 with new episodes available every Wednesday through July 3.

David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams bring Scott Turow’s bestselling novel “Presumed Innocent” to the small screen in a gripping eight-episode adaptation. The series chronicles a murder case shaking the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office, with chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, at the center. The ensemble cast includes talent such as Ruth Negga and Peter Sarsgaard, among others. The high-stakes legal thriller begins streaming on June 12 with weekly episodes following.

In the documentary sphere, “Bread & Roses,” captures the courageous stand of Afghan women against the Taliban regime. Produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, and directed by Sahra Mani, this film offers a riveting perspective into the women’s resistance movement. Following its distinguished debut at Cannes, the documentary will be released on June 21.

Eva Longoria stars and executive produces “Land of Women,” a new bilingual series blending comedy and drama. Longoria plays Gala, a woman forced to flee New York with her mother and daughter, hiding in the idyllic Spanish countryside her mother once escaped from. Long-forgotten secrets resurface as they seek refuge in this small community. Directed by Carlos Sedes, “Land of Women” will premiere on June 26.

Another highlight is “Fancy Dance,” a feature film showcasing the stark reality of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women crisis. Centering on Lily Gladstone’s portrayal of Jax, a woman determined to find her sister while protecting her niece, the movie reflects the complex interplay of Indigenous identity and the criminal justice system. Erica Tremblay’s feature directorial debut is set for a global release on June 28, with an earlier theater premiere on June 21.
