Bhumi Pednekar’s Multi-faceted Environmental Crusades: From Hydroponics to Aid for Strays

Bhumi Pednekar, a seasoned actress known not only for her compelling on-screen performances but also for her unwavering commitment to environmental preservation, celebrates her birthday on July 18. With a strong resolve to make a significant impact on the world around her, Bhumi has embarked on a series of green initiatives aimed at restoring ecological harmony across India. Her journey as a climate champion includes founding an NGO, embracing hydroponics farming, and providing relief to stray animals—all of which exemplify her dedication to building a sustainable future.

Last year marked a significant step forward in Bhumi’s environmental journey with the launch of her NGO, ‘The Bhumi Foundation.’ This non-profit organization is designed to empower other groups and climate conservationists in their mission to create real change. The foundation’s primary objectives include mitigating pollution, reducing the carbon footprint, and fostering ecological balance. Bhumi herself has expressed a profound commitment to these goals.

“Actual change can only happen when we start taking accountability for our actions and step forward to do right by society and humanity at large. I want to do right by my planet and try to leave a better one for future generations. I resolve to do so through my non-profit organization. My name means Earth. Going forward, a portion of my earnings from my films, my brand endorsements, and any other revenue stream will go towards The Bhumi Foundation so that this money could be further used to aid the environment,” Bhumi said in a statement.

In addition to her organizational efforts, Bhumi has also made strides on the home front. During the lockdown, she took the opportunity to educate herself on hydroponics farming—a method of growing plants without soil—learning the science from her mother. This endeavor, driven by a desire for a sustainable lifestyle, has already begun yielding fruits, quite literally.

“My mom and I always wanted to have a hydroponics garden of our own where we grow our vegetables and can have a fully sustainable lifestyle. We wanted to have a garden-to-table lifestyle at home and we are both happy with the progress.

As summer 2024 brought with it scorching temperatures, Bhumi took another meaningful step by installing numerous water bowls across the city to provide relief to stray animals and birds. This initiative, aimed at addressing the severe water scarcity faced by strays during extreme weather conditions, has garnered much appreciation and support.

“We have a group of people that will be filling these water bowls regularly. So whenever you see something like this and you have water, even if you don’t make an effort, fill up those water bowls for our four-legged friends. It is very hot right now. And, you know, our stray animals on the road don’t really have access to water in this heat. So we are just trying to ease that for them a little,” Bhumi told ANI.

Flying banners of environmental consciousness on her social media platforms, Bhumi continuously shares her journey and endeavors to inspire others. Her active engagement with her audience serves as a reminder of the urgency of the environmental crisis and the change that individual action can bring. Her posts often highlight various facets of her green crusades, making her more relatable and motivating more people to follow in her footsteps.

On the professional front, Bhumi Pednekar is gearing up for her role as a police officer in the forthcoming web series ‘Daldal,’ directed by Amrit Raj Gupta. The show, which unfolds in the intricate alleys of Bhendi Bazaar, is penned by Vish Dhamija and promises to showcase Bhumi in a new light.

As Bhumi Pednekar continues to juggle her film career with her environmental advocacies, her actions resonate deeply within the community. Her dedication to creating a better planet, whether through The Bhumi Foundation, hydroponics gardening, or ensuring that stray animals have access to water, is both inspiring and impactful. Bhumi embodies the ethos that real change begins with individual accountability and actions, making her a true climate champion and a role model for sustainable living.
