Delhi University (DU) has officially launched its admission portal for undergraduate (UG) courses for the academic year 2024-25, paving the way for thousands of aspirants. Through this portal, candidates can register online for the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) specifically designed for undergraduate admissions. The announcement was made by Haneet Gandhi, the Dean of Admissions at DU, during a press conference.
For the first time, DU has streamlined the admission process entirely through an online portal. The initiative, which involves 79 UG programmes across 69 colleges, aims to accommodate around 71,000 students. Admissions will hinge on the merit scores obtained from the Common University Entrance Test for undergraduate programmes (CUET-UG). This test is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
“The admission for DU UG courses for the upcoming academic session 2024-25 will be conducted via the DU CSAS portal 2024,” confirmed Haneet Gandhi. The process begins with candidates applying to the University of Delhi followed by filling in their course and college preferences. Seats will be subsequently allocated based on these preferences post the declaration of CUET-UG results.
In addition to regular UG programmes, the admission portal will also cater to applications for the School of Open Learning (SOL) and the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB). Each applicant will need to pay a registration fee for the DU CSAS UG 2024 to secure their application.
Traditionally, until 2021, DU’s UG admission process relied heavily on cutoff marks, which were determined by Class 12 board exam scores. However, the transition to using CUET-UG scores marks a significant shift aimed at fostering a more holistic and inclusive admission process. The CUET-UG results will be critical in the next stage of admissions, wherein candidates must identify and prioritize their preferred course-college combinations.
“The order of the programme and college combination selected at that time will become the priority list, which will determine allocations,” elaborated Haneet Gandhi.
. This ordered list will guide the seat allocation process, ensuring a transparent and equitable system.
Once a seat is allocated to a candidate in any given round, it is imperative for the candidate to “accept” the allocated seat before the deadline specified for that round. According to DU officials, failure to act or an inactive response will be interpreted as non-acceptance of the seat, and the candidate will forfeit the allocated position.
With the launch of this new admission portal, the University of Delhi aims to enhance the efficiency and transparency of its admission process. Candidates will be able to track their application status, receive updates, and manage their application preferences all within a single online platform. This digital transition facilitates a streamlined experience not just for students but also for the administration, reducing processing time and potential errors linked with manual handling.
Aspiring students are encouraged to stay updated and regularly check the DU admission portal for important announcements, deadlines, and other pertinent information. The website will serve as the primary mode of communication for all updates regarding the 2024-25 admission process.
Faculty and administrative staff have been briefed extensively on the new system to ensure that students have ample support throughout their application journey. Dedicated help desks and support lines are also being set up to assist students with any technical difficulties or queries regarding the registration and admission process.
Moreover, DU’s move aligns with the broader objective of standardizing higher education entry criteria across India, ensuring a level playing field for students from various educational boards and backgrounds. By centralizing the admission process through a uniform entrance test (CUET-UG), DU hopes to attract a more diverse student population, bolstering its reputation as one of India’s premier educational institutions.
The University of Delhi remains committed to maintaining high educational standards and fostering an inclusive campus environment. The introduction of the DU CSAS portal 2024 is testament to its ongoing efforts to innovate and adapt in response to the evolving demands of higher education.
Prospective students and their guardians are invited to explore the DU admission portal, familiarize themselves with the new system, and ensure all application steps are completed within the stipulated timelines. With 71,000 seats up for grabs, there’s an exciting journey ahead for the forthcoming DU batch of 2024-25.
