Many actresses who gained fame with debut movies later quit films after facing a series of flops. One such actress, who initially captured everyone’s attention with back-to-back hits, was once insulted by a director on set and subsequently stepped away from the film industry. This intriguing story revolves around Esha Gupta.
Esha Gupta, the daughter of an Air Force Officer, spent her formative years in multiple cities including Dehradun, Hyderabad, and Delhi. She is an alumna of the School of Communication at Manipal University where she earned her degree in Mass Communication. Her journey into the limelight began when she participated in the 2007 Femina Miss India pageant, where she not only won Miss Photogenic but also placed third overall. Esha subsequently represented India in the Miss India International pageant.
Esha Gupta transitioned to Bollywood with a bang, making her debut opposite Emraan Hashmi in the film Jannat 2, which was a commercial success. Her following film, Vikram Bhatt’s Raaz 3D, was also a superhit, cementing her status as a star in the industry. However, this initial success was swiftly followed by a series of flops. Films like Chakravyuh, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, and Humshakals did poorly at the box office, putting a dent in her rising career. Her lone hit after 2012 came in the form of the movie Rustom in 2016.
From 2016 onwards, Esha appeared in several films including Baadshaho, Tutak Tutak Tutiya, Paltan, and One Day, but all met the same fate as their predecessors, failing to make an impact at the box office. Faced with a series of disappointments, she decided to quit films temporarily and explore opportunities in the digital space. She made her OTT debut with the series REJCTX. However, her real breakthrough in the digital world came with her performance in the web series Aashram, where she attracted significant attention for her bold scenes alongside Bobby Deol.
In an illuminating interview with Bollywood Bubble, Esha once recounted a distressing experience on a movie set where she was insulted by the director. Reflecting on the incident, she shared, “He just said something in Hindi and I looked at him, and he is like, ‘You are late.’ I was very calm even then because generally, I am calm. I am like, ‘But I wasn’t late.
. I have been here before all of you, I was here before the shoot time. The outfit had an issue because it was a change, it’s not my fault.’ And he abused me again. That’s it, that was enough for me. The first abuse, I was still okay, it’s very Delhi lingo also.”
She elaborated further, explaining how she finally stood up for herself: “But the second time he said it, I told him the same thing back, what he said to me. I said, ‘You know what? You are this. Don’t ever talk to me like that or disrespect me.’ I literally said that, I walked out from there.”
Despite the setbacks and challenges, Esha Gupta’s career appears to be on an upswing once more. She has some promising projects lined up for the future. One of her upcoming films is Mehul Atha’s Desi Magic, which also features Ameesha Patel, Zayed Khan, and Sahil Shroff in key roles. Reports suggest that she will also be seen in the next installment of the Murder series, specifically Murder 4.
Esha Gupta’s journey is a testament to resilience and determination. From being a beauty queen to becoming a Bollywood star, facing insults and setbacks, and eventually finding her ground in digital space, Esha’s story is both inspirational and compelling. As she prepares for another stint on the big screen, fans and followers are keen to see what she brings next. Her ability to reinvent herself and her career signifies that she is here to stay.
