In a shocking turn of events, Bollywood actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut was allegedly slapped by a woman constable of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as she was preparing to board a flight to Delhi from Chandigarh airport. The incident, which took place around 3:30 pm, has stirred widespread reactions on social media, with netizens quick to point out her visibly bruised cheek in the emerging visuals.
The incident occurred while Ranaut was en route to Delhi to participate in a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting scheduled for the next day. Shortly after the incident, social media was flooded with images and videos capturing Ranaut at the airport. Observant netizens did not miss the fresh mark on her face. One user commented sarcastically, “Chehre ka naksha thoda bigda hua lag raha hai,” pointing out the change in her facial appearance. Another remarked, “The mark is also visible,” while a third candidly noted, “Slap Thoda dikh raha he.”
Taking to her social media account, Ranaut addressed the incident, expressing her thoughts on what she described as increasing “extremism” and “terrorism” in Punjab. “I am safe. I am perfectly fine. The incident took place during the security check. After I was done with the security check, a woman constable of the CISF waited for me to pass through the cabin. Later, she came from the side, hit me in the face, and started abusing me,” Ranaut said in a post on ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter.
Adding to the gravity of her statement, Ranaut elaborated on the constable’s alleged motivation. “When I asked her why she did this, she told me that she (CISF official) had supported the farmers’ protest. My question is how we end growing extremism and terrorism in Punjab,” the actress-turned-politician added.
The CISF constable, who has since been suspended, had her own perspective on the matter. The constable reportedly claimed that her mother had been among the protestors participating in the farmers’ protest against the controversial farm laws, which have now been repealed. “She stated that the farmers are sitting there for Rs 100.
. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave this statement…” the constable revealed.
The farmers’ protest, which lasted for 15 months, was directed against the farm laws introduced by the central government, alongside other grievances. These laws were eventually repealed, but the movement had garnered significant attention and support, becoming a pivotal issue in the region.
In light of the confrontation, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) moved swiftly to address the situation. A senior CISF official confirmed that the woman constable involved in the incident had been suspended with immediate effect. “We have given a complaint at the local police station against the concerned lady constable. She has been suspended with immediate effect and an inquiry has been ordered into the matter,” the officer stated.
The incident has added another layer of complexity to the already polarized political climate in Punjab and Haryana, regions that have witnessed heightened tensions over various political and social issues, including the now-repealed farm laws.
Ranaut, who has always been a polarizing figure in Indian politics and cinema, defeated Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi by a significant margin of 74,755 votes. Her straightforward comments often make headlines, and this incident is no different. By tying the physical confrontation to larger political issues, Ranaut has once again sparked conversations across the country.
Adding their voice to the narrative, several public figures and political analysts have weighed in, with some condemning the physical assault and others cautioning against politicizing the incident without a thorough investigation. Legal experts stress that while the immediate suspension of the constable is a procedural necessity, a comprehensive inquiry will be critical to understand the full context and implications of the altercation.
As the situation develops, the incident at Chandigarh airport remains a focal point of national discussion. For many, it underscores the ongoing debates around security, political dissent, and civil liberties in a country as diverse and dynamic as India. With the inquiry underway, more details are expected to emerge, hopefully shedding light on the events that led to this dramatic episode.
