Kangana Ranaut Embodies Indira Gandhi in Much-Anticipated ‘Emergency’ Trailer


New Delhi: Today marks a pivotal moment in Indian cinema with the grand release of the trailer for “Emergency,” a period political drama both directed by and starring the four-time National Award-winning actress, Kangana Ranaut. The film promises to delve deep into one of India’s most turbulent historical periods—the Emergency of the 1970s. The event, organized amidst much fanfare, saw the presence of Kangana Ranaut, who not only helms the project as director but also embodies the role of the late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Alongside her were key members of the cast, including the celebrated Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, and Shreyas Talpade.

The gripping trailer offers a chilling glimpse into a dark chapter of Indian democracy, depicting nationwide curfews, press censorship, and the closure of various offices. It captures the emotional and political turmoil faced by Indira Gandhi, portrayed by Ranaut, as she navigates this period of immense national strain.

Sharing her reflections on the journey of creating this film, Kangana Ranaut expressed heartfelt gratitude. “I can’t put any sentence together today because it’s been a really long journey. I want to thank many people today, first of all a special thanks to Vijendra Prasad Garu, our writer, my mentor. The writer of this film, Ritesh Shah, has been a guiding light and has always been my mentor, somebody to encourage me and give me my wings to fly,” said Ranaut. “Like every film, we faced many obstacles, but many people stood by us like angels. I want to say a special thanks to my cast. Everyone knows it’s not easy to stand with me and undertake my film. It’s definitely not easy to praise me, but they have done all of it.”

She extended her gratitude to Anupam Kher for being a stalwart supporter, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhary, and her producers. A special mention was made of Puneet Goenka and producer Renu Pitti, who recognized the significance of a film produced and directed by a woman. In a poignant note, she acknowledged her brother for taking care of family responsibilities, her friends, and the media for their unwavering support.

A moment of remembrance marked the trailer launch as Kangana paid tribute to the late Satish Kaushik.

. “Today, a very important person in the film who has given me so much strength and hope Satish Kaushik, we are missing him so much. However, he is not here among us, but when someone is really pure, then he can never depart from here by giving anyone pain,” said Ranaut, her voice tinged with emotion. “Our beloved and respected Satish ji completed all his work and spoke to me about the film and completed his dubbing.”

Umesh Kr Bansal, the Chief Business Officer at Zee Studios, shared his excitement about the collaboration. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Kangana on this significant project. ‘Emergency’ is more than just a film; it’s a reflection of a pivotal moment in Indian democracy. ‘Emergency’ brings together an ensemble cast featuring Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in crucial roles. Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, the film’s music is orchestrated by Sanchit Balhara, with screenplay and dialogues penned by Ritesh Shah. The film is slated for a theatrical release on the 6th of September, 2024.
