Sharvari Wagh: Boxing Her Way into the Spotlight

Sharvari Wagh’s star continues to ascend within the Indian film industry, and her latest project, Vedaa, marks a significant milestone in her burgeoning career. Following the surprising success of Munjya and the well-received Maharaj, Sharvari’s third film of the year is one she holds in particularly high regard. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, Vedaa is not just another acting role for Sharvari; it’s her inaugural venture into playing the titular character, making it a performance of immense personal and professional importance.

Sharvari stepped into the ring, both literally and figuratively, preparing for Vedaa by undergoing a rigorous five-month boxing training regimen. This intensive preparation involved learning boxing from scratch, a first-time endeavor for the actress. “I had never taken up boxing before. To learn it from scratch was a challenge. I had to build my physical fitness and endurance before I even started learning boxing. I specifically had to learn the speed bag for the film,” she recalls, underscoring the physical demands she undertook to suitably portray her character.

On-screen, Sharvari’s character is guided by a mentor played by John Abraham, who aids her in toughening up as she battles against caste violence. The real-life dynamics weren’t too far removed from their on-screen roles. John Abraham, widely regarded as one of India’s biggest action stars, assumed a mentor-like role off-screen as well, imparting invaluable knowledge about performing action sequences safely and effectively. “John is the biggest action star of our country. In real life, he taught me a lot about action sequences and their safety. It has been enriching to learn some tricks of the trade from John. But we were all in service of our director’s vision,” Sharvari explains.

For Sharvari, the opportunity to work with an acclaimed director like Nikkhil Advani in a lead role was nothing short of exhilarating. “I’ve been a huge fan of Nikkhil’s work and to be directed by him in a titular role is motivating for someone like me who comes with no backing in this industry,” she says, reflecting on the significance of this professional opportunity.

The stakes are high for the August 15 release of Vedaa. For Sharvari, it represents more than just another entry in her filmography. Even as she rides the wave of Munjya’s success, she remains focused on honing her craft rather than fixating on box-office numbers. “This film is important for my survival, growth, and my belief in my craft. Different languages, different lives and stories attract me as an actor. My character’s relentless fight for equality and justice inspired me to be a part of Vedaa. For me, the most important things are the story and what my character is trying to say,” she articulates, highlighting the deeper connection she has with the film’s narrative.

Vedaa’s core message of standing against casteism resonated deeply with Sharvari. She envisions it as a story of resilience and an assertion against societal norms. “It’s a tale of empowerment, demonstrating that even in the face of adversity, the human spirit can triumph. We want to remind viewers that standing up for what is right, with courage and conviction, can lead to lasting change, and that every individual has the power to make a difference,” Sharvari states.

In reaffirming her dedication to the role, Sharvari emphasizes the importance of storytelling in her acting pursuits. She values the diverse narratives and lives she gets to explore through her roles and is driven by the significance of what her characters convey. Through Vedaa, Sharvari aspires to inspire and instill a sense of empowerment and change in the audience, mirroring the resilience and courage of her on-screen persona.

As Sharvari Wagh prepares for the release of Vedaa, her commitment to her craft and the film’s impactful message sets a notable precedent. With the support of industry stalwarts like John Abraham and the visionary direction of Nikkhil Advani, Sharvari is poised to make a meaningful mark with Vedaa, both as an actress and a storyteller. The film promises to be a pivotal chapter in her career, encapsulating her journey of growth, resilience, and unwavering belief in her craft.
