Sumona Chakravarti, known for her distinctive roles in Indian television, recently opened up about why she has been missing from the widely-loved celebrity comedy talk show, The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show. The actor, who has collaborated with Kapil Sharma ever since 2013, divulged that she has been charting her own path and does not have a straightforward explanation for her absence from the Netflix series curated by her long-time associate Sharma.
Chakravarti, who made her mark in shows like Colors’ Comedy Nights with Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show broadcasted on Sony TV, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and concern from her fans. When asked by PTI about the reasons behind her not being part of The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show, the actor said, “I don’t have an answer to this. The show that I was part of, which aired on another channel, ended last July. Since that time, I have been on my own journey, exploring different avenues and meeting new people.”
Kapil Sharma’s new stint with the streaming giant Netflix, which stars other prominent comedians such as Sunil Grover, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Rajiv Thakur, and Archana Puran Singh, marks a new chapter for the ensemble cast. Despite the mixed reception of the show, Chakravarti appreciates the continued support from her fans, who have evidently missed her presence. She mentioned, “I know fans have missed me; I’ve seen their messages. Every time I meet people, whether in my neighborhood or even overseas, they express their affection and how much they enjoyed my performances.”
Chakravarti, who is also famed for her role in the TV serial Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, shared anecdotes about fans reaching out to her from across the world. “When I was in London last year, many Indians came up to me to express their fondness for my roles, be it in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain or Comedy Nights. It’s heartwarming to know that my work resonates with people. This kind of adulation encourages me to take on new and diverse roles.”
The 35-year-old actor is now gearing up to face new challenges as she prepares to participate in the stunt reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 14. Chakravarti aspires to diversify her career prospects and engage with different genres. She revealed, “This year holds a lot of promise with some exciting projects in fiction.
. I’ve been involved with theatre, and now Khatron Ke Khiladi is happening. It’s a shift from the roles people traditionally associate me with, and I’m excited about what’s to come.”
Discussing her television career, Chakravarti recalled her journey with Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, a show that garnered her significant acclaim. “Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was a game-changer for me. While I had been working in the industry, this show provided the kind of recognition that catapulted my career. My role in Anurag Basu’s film Barfi! was also a milestone, despite being a small part. Just being associated with such a prestigious project was invaluable; it’s something I cherish and learned a lot from.”
Chakravarti is looking forward to her stint on Khatron Ke Khiladi 14, a show that puts celebrity contestants through a series of gruelling challenges. The actor shared that her mother had always been a big fan of the show and had encouraged her to participate. “Every year, she would suggest I try out for Khatron Ke Khiladi. Initially, I dismissed the idea, not wanting to put myself in such uncomfortable situations. But then I realized it’s a fantastic platform to showcase my real self and embrace adventures I’ve always wanted to experience.”
The upcoming season of Khatron Ke Khiladi promises high-octane thrills and includes a star-studded lineup featuring Shilpa Shinde, Asim Riaz, Krishna Shroff, Shalin Bhanot, Abhishek Kumar, Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia, Karan Veer Mehra, Kedar Aashish Mehrotraa, Aditi Sharma, Gashmeer Mahajani, and Niyati Fatnani. The show will air soon on the Colors channel, adding more zest to the already vibrant Indian television landscape.
