Before One Direction was a household name, its members independently auditioned for the UK’s The X Factor. None could have predicted the show would change everything when the judges decided to unite five promising talents—Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne—into a singular group that came in third during the 2010 competition.
