Upcoming Films Health Hurdles and New Collaborations in Bollywood

Over the last few years, Aamir Khan has been diligently working toward transforming his production house into a full-fledged studio. A significant step in this transformation was the recent appointment of Aparna Purohit, former Head of Originals for India and Southeast Asia at Amazon Prime Video. Purohit has been brought on board to lead Aamir Khan Productions as it embarks on this new journey. Following the success of Kiran Rao’s “Laapataa Ladies,” Aamir Khan has several projects at various stages of post-production. These include “Pritam Pyaare” starring his son Junaid, Rajkumar Santoshi’s “Lahore 1947” with Sunny Deol, Vir Das’s “Happy Patel,” and RS Prasanna’s “Sitaare Zameen Par.”

In particularly exciting news, Aamir Khan and his production team are currently finalizing the next slate of films. One of these projects, which will be helmed by Rajkumar Santoshi, might star Aamir himself in the lead role. This upcoming film is reported to be a slice-of-life story that cleverly integrates humor with a significant social message. An insider revealed, “Aamir will, however, make a final decision on his next acting project only after he finishes editing ‘Sitaare Zameen Par.’” Adapted from the 2019 Spanish film “Campeones,” the Prasanna-directed movie is slated for a Christmas release. Known for his perfectionist tendencies, Aamir plans to continue his trend of working on one film at a time, aiming for a release every 18 months.

Meanwhile, another significant Bollywood figure, Akshay Kumar, is facing some hurdles with his upcoming movie “Skyforce,” which is set for an October 2 release. The film recently encountered a significant roadblock when its Oscar-winning composer, MM Keeravaani, opted out due to creative differences with producer Dinesh Vijan over the background score. The parting is said to be amicable, with both parties expressing interest in future collaborations. GV Prakash Kumar has stepped in as the new composer for “Skyforce.” Prakash, who composed the soundtrack and background score for Akshay’s “Sarfira,” has already commenced work, aiming to meet the tight deadlines. Both Akshay and Dinesh are pleased with this new collaboration, confident that Prakash’s expertise will take the film to new heights.

In other news, Shah Rukh Khan is reportedly battling another health issue. The “Jawan” star, who suffered from heatstroke and dehydration during a recent Indian Premier League match in Ahmedabad, is now seeking eye treatment in the United States. The specific nature of his eye problem remains undisclosed, but it was severe enough to warrant a visit to a Mumbai hospital earlier this week. However, when treatment couldn’t be administered as planned, SRK decided to seek immediate care abroad to prevent further complications. He is expected to commence shooting for his next film, “King,” alongside his daughter Suhana Khan later this year.

Ektaa R Kapoor is keen to replicate the success of her film “Crew,” which featured stars like Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon. This time, she’s joining forces with producer Dil Raju for a new film to be directed by Amit Rai of “OMG 2” fame. Rai is currently collaborating with Ektaa’s development team on a script focusing on three female protagonists. Simultaneously, Rai is also working on a biopic of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj starring Shahid Kapoor. With the first draft of the historical drama already completed, it remains to be seen which project will take off first.

Lastly, the much-anticipated film adaptation of the “Ramayana” is back in the spotlight. After overcoming legal hurdles involving producer Madhu Mantena, director Nitesh Tiwari is now gearing up to resume filming. The production is significantly ramping up, with 12 sets being constructed for the mythological epic. With Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita, the project has recently roped in Kunal Kapoor for an undisclosed role. Kunal, who was last seen in “The Empire” (2021), has already begun his preparation for the two-part film. Scheduled to wrap by December 2025, the production team has meticulously drafted a year-long shooting schedule to ensure the film’s completion by the deadline.

As these thrilling developments unfold, it is evident that the Bollywood industry is buzzing with activity, promising fans a diverse lineup of compelling films and collaborations in the years to come.
