Adani-TotaleEnergies Joint Venture Powers Up EV Charging at MG Dealerships

In a strategic move that signals a major boost for the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in India, Adani TotalEnergies E-Mobility Limited (ATEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Total Gas Limited (ATGL), has announced a collaboration with MG Motor India. This initiative, focused on setting up cutting-edge EV charging infrastructure, aims to support the burgeoning demand for electric vehicles in the country.

This partnership was formalized by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by both companies, which outlined the installation of CC2 60 kW DC chargers at new MG Motor dealerships. By doing so, the collaboration seeks to bolster the charging network, thereby enhancing the convenience and accessibility for electric vehicle owners looking to recharge their vehicles.

From the outset, this partnership is designed to deliver an all-encompassing solution that includes the supply, installation, commissioning, and operations of the charging stations. Furthermore, the maintenance of this charging infrastructure is a key component of the agreement, ensuring long-term reliability and efficiency.

To complement the physical charging infrastructure, a digital platform is set to be launched. It aims to deliver a frictionless customer experience, covering aspects such as station discovery, user authentication, charging, and billing settlement through a dedicated mobile application—significantly simplifying the process for EV owners.

ATEL’s existing network already boasts over 300 charge points across a range of locations, including highway pitstops, shopping malls, residential communities, workplaces, and fleet charging hubs. With an installed capacity of around 6 MW and approximately 500 charge points currently under construction, ATEL is rapidly expanding its footprint in the EV charging domain.

MG Motor India, a legacy automotive brand founded in the UK in 1924 and renowned for its sporty and elegant vehicles, operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat. With a production capacity exceeding 100,000 vehicles annually, MG has been at the forefront of India’s EV revolution. Through its ‘MG Charge’ initiative, the company is committed to setting up 1,000 charging points within a timeframe of 1,000 days across residential communities and apartments throughout the nation, with half of this ambitious goal already achieved.

To date, MG Motor India has installed an extensive network of over 15,000 chargers, which includes home chargers—a testament to the brand’s vision of creating a shared charging infrastructure in prime residential areas to facilitate easy vehicle charging for residents and visitors alike.

The collaboration between ATEL and MG is poised to strengthen the fabric of India’s electric vehicle landscape by developing sophisticated charging solutions and value-added services. The strategic alliance is expected to extensively explore the integration of public charging stations across various platforms. By leveraging advanced application programming interfaces (APIs), the partnership aims to improve the network’s visibility and accessibility, thus offering electric vehicle owners a seamless experience across the integrated charging networks managed by both entities.

Speaking on the partnership, Gaurav Gupta, Chief Growth Officer at MG Motor India, emphasized the company’s dedication to sustainability and green mobility. He noted that the alliance with ATEL will be pivotal in catalyzing the adoption of electric vehicles across India. The collaboration, according to Gupta, aligns with MG’s vision to revolutionize the EV landscape by constructing a robust charging infrastructure.

Echoing this sentiment, Suresh P Mangalani, CEO of ATGL, highlighted the significance of the partnership in advancing India’s energy transition. He pointed out that such collaborative efforts are essential in reducing carbon emissions and fostering a cleaner environment.

Moreover, the collaboration will enhance customer experience by providing RFID solutions for MG users within ATEL’s public charging network. This initiative includes strategic locations like airports where RFID cards will be offered to MG through bulk purchase arrangements, featuring preferential discount offerings for MG vehicle owners.

In summary, the synergy between Adani TotalEnergies E-Mobility Limited and MG Motor India signifies an innovative leap forward in the quest for sustainable mobility in India—a move that promises to support the nation’s evolving EV ecosystem with a sustainable and efficient charging network.
