upGrad’s Monumental Achievement: Empowering 55000 Careers in FY24


In an impressive showcase of its commitment to enhancing career prospects, Mumbai-based education technology and skill development heavyweight upGrad has proudly reported a significant milestone in its annual placements and transitions, successfully facilitating 55,000 job opportunities in the fiscal year 2024. This accomplishment highlights an era of accelerated growth and formidable impact in the job marketplace.

The figures consist of an assortment of new employment positions, career changes, and advanced promotions within a diverse range of nearly 3,000 national and global companies. The annual compensation for these roles varied significantly, starting from a respectable baseline of Rs 4.5 LPA and escalating to a staggering Rs 1.80 crore, as per the information disclosed by the organization.

A noticeable trend in the hiring landscape pinpointed the marketing, data, and technology sectors as the areas with the most significant activity. Geographically, this employment boost was notably concentrated in metropolitan hubs – approximately 50 percent of the placements were distributed among Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai. This pattern was further seen in other cities such as Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Noida, Gurgaon, and Ahmedabad, not to mention the Indian states of Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.

A particularly noteworthy aspect of this upsurge in employment was the proportion of women professionals engaging in upGrad’s services. They comprised nearly two-thirds of the demographic keen on upskilling for amplified career progression or rejoining the workforce through tailored ‘returnship’ programs.

In tandem with its placement achievements, upGrad has experienced a surge in enrollments for its free courses, particularly those focused on GenAI, Data, AI/ML, and technology. The company reported over 1.4 lakh individuals taking advantage of these educational opportunities, underscoring a strong demand for digital literacy and skill enhancement.

Mayank Kumar, the Co-founder & Managing Director of upGrad, explained the vision and approach that spurred such impressive results. “We’ve built a robust and integrated learning suite with courses, bootcamps, and certifications that are reverse-engineered to drive career outcomes for our learners,” Kumar remarked. He elaborated on the extensive training and learning that individuals undergo, ranging from freshers and first-time job seekers to mid-career and senior professionals, all designed to establish hands-on skills that translate to tangible job benefits.

In detailing the strategic path that led to this year’s successes, Kumar mentioned, “Through our in-house capabilities, years of tech investments, robust university roster, and strategic business mergers, we have developed a master pedagogy that is now scalable and ready to be replicated across new geographies.”

upGrad’s Enterprise arm also painted a picture of educational influence, reporting the upskilling and training of nearly 600,000 corporate professionals in FY24. This effort cast a wide net, extending services to over 1,000 mid and large-sized clients, including esteemed Fortune 500 companies.
