Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma recently made headlines after an insightful session at an event in Mumbai, where she delved into her disciplined upbringing, credited to her Army background. The actress, who is renowned for her stellar performances in films like ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ and ‘Sultan’, shared a heartfelt narrative on how her parents inculcated valuable life lessons during her formative years.
Anushka Sharma’s disciplined life can be traced back to her childhood, which was deeply influenced by her father’s military career. Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma, her father, played a crucial role in ensuring that Anushka and her siblings grew up with a sense of discipline and responsibility. Anushka took a moment to acknowledge the seemingly small yet impactful actions of her parents that contributed immensely to her upbringing.
“I think one thing that my parents did very naturally, and I believe it’s because I come from an Army background, is that we lived a very disciplined life. It wasn’t the stereotypical military household with strict rules, but more about naturally integrating discipline into our daily routines,” Anushka shared, reminiscing about her childhood days.
She elaborated on how simple activities, such as dining table etiquette, were used as tools to impart essential values. “For example, if we were very finicky about our food and didn’t want to eat something, our dad never scolded us. Instead, he would calmly ask us to leave the table and come back when we were hungry. And when we did, the same food would be waiting for us. These small actions taught us to value and appreciate everything our parents did for us,” she added, with a touch of nostalgia.
Anushka believes these lessons have had a long-lasting impact on her perception of life and her ability to appreciate the little things. This ingenious yet gentle approach by her parents ensured that each lesson was ingrained in her mind without the need for harsh discipline.
In addition to discipline, Anushka also revealed her go-to comfort food that reminds her of home.
. “Anything that my mother made while we were growing up was my comfort food. But one thing I always go back to, especially when I’m not feeling my best, is dal chawal and sukhi aloo ki sabzi—all in one plate. It’s an instant pick-me-up and I absolutely love it!” she expressed with a warm smile.
Taking a stroll down memory lane, the actress also shed light on her illustrious career in Bollywood. Anushka made a remarkable debut in 2008 opposite Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’. Her vibrant performances in Yash Raj Films’ romantic dramas like ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ and ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ propelled her to stardom. She continued to earn accolades for her roles in ‘Badmaash Company’, ‘Patiala House’, ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl’, ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’, and ‘PK’, to name a few.
Anushka’s filmography is diverse and includes critically acclaimed films like ‘NH10’, ‘Bombay Velvet’, ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, ‘Sultan’, ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, ‘Sanju’, and ‘Sui Dhaaga’. Her latest appearance was in the 2018 comedy-drama ‘Zero’, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif.
Currently, fans eagerly await her return to the big screen in ‘Chakda ‘Xpress’—a biographical sports drama based on the life of Jhulan Goswami. The film, written by Abhishek Banerjee and directed by Prosit Roy, promises to be another milestone in Anushka’s illustrious career.
