Vedang Raina recently shared insights into the intense preparations and challenges he faced while filming “Jigra”, revealing how the role took a significant toll on his mental health. The actor recalled that on the very first day of the shoot, he needed to portray an emotionally intense scene. To immerse himself completely into the character’s mindset, Vedang adopted a method acting approach that left a lasting impact on him.
Speaking to Mansworld, Vedang explained, “I was preparing for this emotionally draining scene that was scheduled to be shot at 3 PM. However, due to unforeseen delays, we didn’t start filming until 8 PM. During this time, I confined myself in my vanity van, turned off all the lights, switched off my phone, and asked everyone to leave me alone. I spent around eight hours in this self-imposed solitary confinement. It was an intense and transformative experience for me. By the time we concluded the scenes, it took me almost 2-3 hours to get back to a normal mental state. I realized that this method was too extreme for me and decided that I would need to find other ways to access such deep emotions without putting myself through such a toll.”
Playing a prisoner character came with its own set of challenges. Vedang opened up about how daunting and intimidating it was to approach this role as an actor. “I have no firsthand experience of what it’s like to be a prisoner, and that made it quite a scary and challenging task to portray it authentically.
. The script contains some profoundly impactful scenes, which required a high level of emotional connectivity,” Vedang shared.
Another major challenge he faced while embodying the character was the need to shave his head repeatedly. “For the role, I had to shave my head multiple times over the course of a year. It was the first time I had to display so much vulnerability on camera, including crying, which was incredibly challenging yet rewarding as an actor,” Vedang further elaborated.
